VIA| In July of last year, 27-year-old Seth Rich, a DNC staffer was shot and killed in Washington D.C.
As we reported then, Rich was beaten, shot and killed early on the morning of July 8 while he was walking home and talking on the phone to his girlfriend. The killer or killers appeared to have taken nothing from their victim, leaving behind his wallet, watch and phone.
At the time, police characterized it as a “botched robbery” although as Rich’s father Joel said, “If it was a robbery — it failed because he still has his watch, he still has his money — he still has his credit cards, still had his phone so it was a wasted effort except we lost a life.”
Conspiracy theories abounded. Was Rich murdered by the DNC or the Clinton machine because he was the mole sending emails to Wikileaks? Julian Assange, Wikileaks founder certainly stoked that fire, offering a $20,000 reward for any information about his death, and in an interview, hinting strongly that Rich was in fact a Wikileaks source.
Julian Assange: Whistleblowers go to significant efforts to get us material and often very significant risks. As a 27-year-old, works for the DNC, was shot in the back, murdered just a few weeks ago for unknown reasons as he was walking down the street in Washington.
Reporter: That was just a robbery, I believe. Wasn’t it?
Julian Assange: No. There’s no finding. So… I’m suggesting that our sources take risks.
Fast forward to today.
According to Fox News, Rich had indeed leaked thousands of internal emails to WikiLeaks.
A federal investigator who reviewed an FBI forensic report — generated within 96 hours after DNC staffer Seth Rich’s murder — detailing the contents of Rich’s computer said he made contact with WikiLeaks through Gavin MacFadyen, a now-deceased American investigative reporter, documentary filmmaker, and director of WikiLeaks who was living in London at the time.
I have seen and read the emails between Seth Rich and WikiLeaks,” the federal investigator told Fox News, confirming the MacFadyen connection. He said the emails are in possession of the FBI, while the stalled case is in the hands of the Washington Police Department.
The revelation is consistent with the findings of Rod Wheeler, a former DC homicide detective and Fox News contributor and whose private investigation firm was hired by Rich’s family to probe the case.
The federal investigator, who requested anonymity, said 44,053 emails and 17,761 attachments between Democratic National Committee leaders, spanning from January 2015 through late May 2016, were transferred from Rich to MacFadyen before May 21.
Just 12 days after Rich was killed, Wikileaks released the internal DNC emails showing officials apparently conspired against Bernie Sanders, resulting in Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s resignation as Party chair.
Has there been a cover-up all this time? Wheeler certainly believes so:
“My investigation shows someone within the D.C. government, Democratic National Committee or Clinton team is blocking the murder investigation from going forward,” Wheeler told Fox News. “That is unfortunate. Seth Rich’s murder is unsolved as a result of that.”
It will be interesting to see if this investigation continues to be stymied.
They always say politics is a blood sport, but it’s generally meant figuratively. It sure seems in this case to be literal as well.
